Popular Nollywood actor and festival director of the prestigious
Abuja International Film Festival, Fred Amata has vowed to drag Mr
President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan to the venue of this year’s edition of
the annual film festival where Lancelot Imasuen’s highly anticipated
historical movie, “Invasion 1897” is scheduled to be the opening film of
the festival.
this promise after the official unveiling of the movie at
Silverbird cinemas, Victoria Island, last week. He described the movie
as one of the best movies that ever come out of Nollywood, giving kudos,
however, to Lancelot for a job well done. “We have decided to adopt
“Invasion 1897” as the opening film of the Abuja International Film
Festival. I must personally ensure that Mr President attend the opening
of the festival which comes up on Tuesday, September 23, to see the
film,”Amata assured.
The event was well attended with the hall
full to its capacity with people who were eager to see the offering from
the maverick director. The movie did not disappoint; as clips of it
rolled unto the screen. It received a thunderous ovation from the elated
audience. The trailer and poster were also unveiled to the delight of
many. The event was anchored by Uti Nwachukwu who introduced all in the
house and gave them the rare opportunity to appraise the big-budget
film.
Interestingly, the World premiere tour of the movie will
commnce with the Toronto African and Music Festival, holding on the
27th of August, where ‘Invasion 1897’ will be the opening film of the
festival. Also, there will be a London VIP premiere of the film
alongside a major exhibition of Benin bronze works coming up on the 13th
of September. This will be followed by a special premiere of the
movie at the famous Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C on the 17th
of September. Back home, the film will be screened at the Abuja Film
Festival, after which there will be special Nollywood premiere.
According to Lancelot, the movie will be premiered on the 30th of
September, in Lagos and start showing in cinemas nationwide as from the
1st of October.
