THE Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Osayuki
Oshodin, has declared open the 11th edition of the Nigerian Universities
Staff Sports Association (NUSSA) games open, saying that the
sports
event will cement the existing relationship among universities in the
country.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy
Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof (Mrs) Obehin Okojie, stressed the need
for government at all levels to supports sports in tertiary
institutions, so that the country will be able to groom young sports men
and women that will represent Nigeria in international competitions.
According
to him, “It is a cocktail of emotion for me and the University as we
host this games, it is out of our desire for the promotion of sports in
Nigerian Universities and Nigeria in general which is a symbol of unity
that made us agree to host this games because we want sports to grow in
Nigeria our fatherland.
“The peculiarity of this games is that the
athletes are adults, some of them are also parents so efforts should be
more on the friendship, sharing of ideas so that we can build
relationship that will last for long, which will be of huge benefit to
our country” he stated.
27 Universities will be participating in the games which kicked off yesterday and will end on the 9th of August, 2014.
